Hello
As detailed in the Official Invitation to the Old Hacks Dinner 2009, you are able to contribute to a memorial to Paul Ryan who passed away in May of this year. The Executive have already commissioned this permanent tribute and EUSA have agreed to place it somewhere in the Union. The memorial will be ready by the time the Dinner is being held.
If you wish to donate to the memorial, please click
Thanks
Sandra

The details for Paul's memorial service have now been confirmed.
The service will take place at 11am on Friday 12th June 2009 in OurLadyof TheMost Holy RosaryRCChurch¿ (postcode TS23 2EP¿ for those using satnav), followed by a graveside service at St. Peter's Church in Wolviston nearby. There will be a post-service gathering in the Catholic Club in Billingham.
There are several options for accommodation for those planning on staying (I expect to stay both the Thursday and Friday nights).
Premier Inn Stockton on Tees North¿ has rooms from £60 and is just a couple of miles from the Church.
For a more traditional local-type hotel The Billingham Arms¿ has rooms from £35 single £50/double and is within walking distance of the Church.
There are plenty of other hotels in the area.
I would be grateful if you could let me know if you can attend. For those who have them, please wear EUU Committee of Management ties. If you can't make the service, but have a message to pass on or a wee story about Paul you'd like shared at some point during the day, please pass them on to Murray or myself.
Paul was laid to rest in Cle Elum, Washington on Saturday 2nd May 2009.
I am pleased to add that the thoughts and love of all Old Hacks was passed on to Paul's wife Frances and his family and friends
A memorial service is being planned for his home town of Billigham in a few weeks time - more information will be available shortly and posted on the Old Hacks website and via the Facebook groups.
Paul's obituary has also been published in his local newspaper - follow this link to read more and celebrate Paul's life.

I am very sad to report that Paul Ryan died from a heart attack over the weekend.
For the younger Old Hacks, Paul was Deputy President 1988/89 and the Old Hacks Representative without Portfolio. Paul moved to the United States in 2005 where he married Frances whom he met while working for Whigmaleeries in 2002. He will be greatly missed.
Please use the Old Hacks website (oldhacks.com) and Facebook groups for any further information.
Paul and Frances' website is at www.ryancentric.com
You can see the official photos kindly taken by Mr Stevenson here:

We've arranged to get an A4 print of the group shot for everyone sent out to you compliments of the Executive.
Please can you confirm the best address for me to send it to you (drop me a quick email) and I'll get them out to you hopefully Royal Mail permitting before Christmas. If you attended as a couple but would like one copy each, please let me know and I'll send you two to the same address.
A Date For Your Diaries.

Belated congratulations and goodbyes to Paul Ryan. The Old Hack's Executive member is following in the footsteps of his namesake Meg, and not only is he getting married (to Frances Cook) on 21st May 2005, but he is moving all the way to the Steattle, USA (get the Meg reference now) from 26th April. We would all want to wish Paul well for the future.
Congratulations to Ian Stevenson and Ruth Holohan who have announced their engagement. Another Old (Hack) married couple on the way!
Details of the 2003 Dinner have now been added to the Previous Events section. This includes a whole bunch of photos courtesy of Ian Stevenson, including the Official Photograph.
Details of Mrs Leary's funeral have been announced. This will be on Saturday 22 November at 12 noon in the Lorimer Chapel, Warriston, Edinburgh. More details will follow as soon as known.
News of the death of Mrs Leary has been received with great sadness. Funeral details are not yet known, but it is our hope that many Old Hacks will be able to attend and mark the passing of this wonderful woman, great servant of the Union, and friend to generations of students.
